Is there a special reason why it is 35 cm wide? would certainly look better at 50 cm if space is no problem. It would not cot too much more to construct it that way..

way to much 50cm the volume of water will increase a lot, in addition max i can go is 40cm not more then that for sure.

adding 20cm in depth will increase approx 200Liter of extra water. True that i wish an 800L but water, power etc cost way to much, doubling the volume to 600 liter is reasonable and will be fine but over 600 liters i belive its too much.

This will be a setup for discus i say 6 to 10 adult discus not more. I d say by time i will end up keeping only 6.

the mat is simple, filtration i would need two pumps 25watt each, externa filter 15watt, 2 air pumps 5 watt each, two heaters 400watt each, 2 led tubes 15 watt each, 4 led strips 3 watt each. 2 UV sterlizers 10 watt each. Total 940 watts, considering the heater and light is not always on i can say that over all it will consume 400w/h adding up 800 liters it will be 550w/h quite a significant increase.

By the way anyone know how much is the cost of 1 Unit of energy including all tax and other charges?

right now it would count to 23c of a eur per KWh / Unit. to go to 800 litres from 600 it will be just a small increase of 1.5 unit average per day over a year since remember that heater are on only for half the year due to summer.. then as to when they are used, they will be on onle half the time normally... like on my 700 litres tank, I use only 280W of heat per hour to keep it at 27deg in march. plus from gune to september/october it is basically almost off all the time eh... then if you insulate the unused sides like the back and top and sides and bottom with at least 25mm "jablo" you can reduce the heat required by a further 40-60% (depending on how well insulated it is and ho big is the remaining glass which is not insulated. basically the insulation will repay itself in a year's worth of use in general.

So basically your best option, if you want to have the least heat losses, is to use the 40cm width (your max width) and than vary the height for the required volume because than you would be decreasing the glass surface area of your aquarium.
