Hey i was wondering if i can breed my fighter which is in my community thank at the moment but doesnt attack the other fish. I will remove my cardinals and endlers but can i keep my 2 catfish and 1 red tail shark and still breed succesfully? Because the fighter is producing the bubble nest and has started to flare a bit at other fish. Thanks.

No, I can assure you the baby fry will quickly become a meal for both the shark and the catfish.

Hey jamezyTo breed bettas you cannot have current. The current will only destroy the bubble nest and disperse the fry if your bettas make it to breeding stage. If there's a lot of current the bettas won't breed cause they sense that it is not a good breeding place. Also you must consider that the female needs hiding places such as bogwood and plants. In my opinion your best bet would be to set up a small aquarium for their breeding. I would not attempt breeding in a tank with other fish.

Yes I remember you had mentioned something about the tank being the same. Yes it's a Hailea. I have kept the filtration off at all times and heater on at the back during breeding and the first month approx. of fry rearing. Depending on the amount of fry you have in the Hailea, remember that as soon as they grow almost an inch each, you'll have to house them in a secondary rearing tank which is bigger.

@jamezy - Like Malti has said bettas normal spawn size would be somewhere between the 100 - 300 tiny betta fry. However you must consider the following: Age of both female and male bettas: - A young female first time spawning = smaller amount of fry (10-50) - A young female which has already spawned before = smaller amount of fry but with an increase in egg production and breeding experience therefore (10-100) - A young male betta with lack of experience = will affect the three day period from egg laying to hatching insofar as he would be liable to either to partially eat the eggs, or the fry when they hatch. Also fry numbers are effected from the quality of the water, how well the tank is heated and what temperature is provided. What food would have been fed to the bettas prior to the spawning attempt (you need at least to start feeding nutritious live food combined with granules a month before to induce spawning). Then again...it's up to mother nature. Some betta breeders have indeed recorded from pairs of mature bettas in their Thai breeding farms, spawns of up to a 1000 fry. I know it might sound exagerated however if you look it up, you'll find out for yourself Ask if you need more information, I'm always glad to give my little bit of input.

Thats still a huge spawn Malti. Well done for that record especially since you managed to rear them to adulthood.

thankyou :) it was something short of a miracle, cause i used nothing except a tank and plants...well it was in summer so heater was not needed - mmm wonder if they're sexually effected by heat, as most of them were female...(only 60-70 were male) For sale. Pink tail shark, trapdoor snails, wanted small discus please contact me
