Help - Introducing new fish

Posted: Sunday, January 01, 2012 2:54 PM Quote

I have my set up running for a month now with the following parameters:

PH 8.2

Ammonia 0

NO2 0

NO3 10ppm

I have introduced 1 royal dotty back about a week ago and everything was fine.  Now i have introduced a pair of normal clowns and they seem agitated. I have noticed that the dotty is bulying the clowns and consequently they are not eating.  Any suggestions? Shall i remove the dotty? Or will the clowns calm down in due course.

Thanks a lot and happy new year to everyone.

Hi , can you please let us know the size of the aquarium and if you have hiding places setup?

Royal dotty backs are bullies and can be a huge pain especially when introduced before other fish.

Here is a little trick you can try, since your aquarium is new this is what I suggest to do. Remove all 3 fish from the tank and change the aqua-scape move some rockwork around if possible then introduce the 3 fish at night time with lights turned off.

Hello Admin

Thanks a lot for your reply.

My tank is 120ltr (60L x 58H x 42D).  I have 10kg of live rock in it and i have made a lot of caverns and hiding places.  I have read somewhere to redesign the scenery and have done it yesterday with a 30% waterchange.  But have placed the clowns straight away and placed the Royal Dotty Back during the night when the blue light was on.  So far i have not seen it bullying the clowns except a couple of times, probably due that the clowns went in her area.  I will upload a photo later on of the current setup.  My problem still remain that the clowns are not eating.  I saw them running after the food and bite but immediately throwing it out.  I tried to give them flakes, pellets and also frozen shrimps bought from a lfs.

Are they being stressed by the  Royal Dotty Back and thus not eating?

Thanks

I would give them some time, try asking the LFS you bought them from what he was feeding them and but the same product. It depends on the size of the clowns normally they prefer small granules rather than flakes or pallets.

keep us posted :-)

HI admin,

I have granules not pellets sorry.  Will check with tomorrows feeding about the granules and will phone the LFS in the morning to check what he was feeding them.

Tried to attache a photo of my current setup but without success.  Will try to find out in the forum, I know I saw somewhere how to upload photos.

I have one more inquiry,  I also noticed the clowns have not slept for the past 2 days, since I got them basically.  Should I worry?
